IREB REQUIREMENTS ENGINEERING

Requirements Modelling: Another Important Module of the IREB Certification in Requirements Engineering

Business models help to form a picture of what the end product will look like in design and function. They are a great tool to generate feedback or new requirements from stakeholders.

Requirements modelling forms an integral part of the IREB’s recommended training for certification in requirements engineering. Some of the types of models that can be used are:

  • Data models. These models help to define how different parts of data fit together. In so doing, they elicit many stakeholders’ needs that may have been overlooked.
  • Process models. Process models help people to understand how a new product will work. This not only elicits further requirements or requirement changes, but also helps to prepare end users for change and diminish any resistance.
  • Use case models. Use case models seek to portray a scenario of how a system will work. For this model to succeed, it needs the active participation of all users and stakeholders to test the validity of fundamental requirements and to elicit new ones.
